Ruidoso, New Mexico

Golf course at the Mountain of the Gods (this one is for you Stephen!!)
Trying to find the perfect bear for grandma!

Pony rides!

Another one of my favorite mountain towns in New Mexico, is Ruidoso. I have only been there one other time with friends, but I fell in love with it immediately. It is a lot bigger and more commercialized than Cloudcroft, but it has a CUTE downtown full of great shops!! It also more "touristy" and has lots of fun activities for the kids. It is only about 45 minutes down the mountain from Cloudcroft, so we decided to make a morning of it. My mom was looking for a wooden bear made out of a log, to sit on her front porch. Ruidoso is know for their log bears, so we went to a few places until she found the perfect one! The boys liked helping grandma find a "Smokey the Bear," too! We also had some errands to run, since you can't do your shopping in Cloudcroft (very expensive!!) So by the time we got to lunch Logan was having a meltdown, so we decided not to add too much more to our agenda. We finished our yummy mexican food lunch, mine including a green chilie burrito, (they are known for their green chile sauce in NM and it is just DELISH) and headed for some pony rides before heading back home. I was a little bummed we didn't get to enjoy the town a little more. Next time I go, I will do a lot more shopping and maybe even visit Mountain of the Gods casino! ;)

Ruidoso has grown so much since we were there last skiing, but I think it is still a neat place to go and Bill played golf at Inn of the Mountain Gods - what a beautiful course to play. Go glad ya'll got to spend the day in town there.
