The State Fair & Oprah :)

A few weeks ago Logan and I met my aunt and cousins (who are from Austin,) at their hotel in Richardson. The hotel sat right behind one of the DART stations, so we decided to ride the rails down to the State Fair. Besides it being really crowded, it was a really neat experience for the kids. My aunt and I also enjoyed it because we didn't have to fight the traffic and find parking at the fair. We left really early on a Sunday morning, hoping it wouldn't be that crowded. But, when we showed up the place was PACKED. I knew Oprah was going to be there on that Monday, but had no idea at the time that she was actually filming on that Sunday too! So, we decided to push through the crowds and head toward the animal barn for the boys. As we were walking that way, we passed the Fried Butter & Fried PB & J station and I noticed a small crowd starting to form. I also noticed a lot of police/security standing around too. I asked a woman what was going on and she said that Oprah and Gayle were supposed to be there soon to try the fried butter. So of course I started to get really excited and wanted to stay to see them. My aunt didn't think it was a good idea for the little boys to stay because of all the pushing and shoving, so she took them on to see the animals, while my teenage cousins and I stayed and waited. We didn't realize how LONG we would have to wait, (about and hour & a half) but it was cool to be one of the first ones in the line. We were literally on the second row, when Oprah and Gayle made their grand entrance! I was such in shock to be able to see this famous person that I watch every day, standing in front of me! I took a few pictures, but I was trying to take in the moment as well. And, her State Fair show aired last Monday and I actually made a one second appearance in the Fried Butter segment! :) I seriously played it in slow motion a HUNDRED times!! :) I guess it was my 1 second of fame, but it was better than nothing!!

Anyway, the rest of the day was really fun as well. We ate corn dogs, cotton candy, caramel apples, turkey legs, chocolate covered strawberries and more! We also let the kids ride some carnival rides, watched the Dog Show and visited the kiddie farm. We didn't get to spend as much time as we would have wanted because one of my cousins wasn't feeling great and we needed to meet Spencer and Stephen back at the hotel for swimming. But, it ended up being a really fun day and one that I will never forget!! We will definitely have to make this a yearly tradition, (and maybe go back on a less crowded day!)

Great pictures of your Fair Day - I miss those days - I used to go every year growing up. Love the pics of the cousins and Logan. You must have been standing right next to one of my ex-students who sent pics on FB of Gayle and Oprah eating the fried butter, etc. from the same angle as yours!! Exciting day! Love, cd
