Learning Through Play

"Alphabet Dot's" (I got this idea from http://www.childcareland.com/ )
Logan LOVED this activity!!! The only problem is that I didn't have enough "pom pom's." He wanted to make every letter of the alphabet, instead of doing one letter at a time!
We LOVE Starfall.com!! Logan doesn't work the computer himself, I click on the activity and we do it together.
Alphabet puzzles are so much fun!! Logan will find the letter and say "E elephant," and then match it to the puzzle. He even knows some of his sounds too!Daddy and Logan love playing alphabet and number games in the shower! I have to be honest, Stephen is AWESOME at teaching Logan new things. I have to give him MOST of the credit for what Logan knows. He is so patient and is constantly playing learning games with him. Thank you Stephen for being such an INCREDIBLE and involved daddy!! (Letters daddy says Logan knows: D, I, G, A, N, K, O, B, S, Q, J, W, M, K & U!)
And, of course BOOKS!! We have been reading to Logan since he was a tiny baby. It seriously has paid off because he LOVES to read!! We read 3 books with him every night before he goes to bed. He can now re-tell stories to us and can point out letters too!

Logan has amazed me over the last year, with all he has learned. He is such a little sponge and picks up on almost anything we teach him. I don't know if he is a genius or not, but being his mommy, I think he is pretty smart. But, more than being smart I think it is all about exposure for little ones. I am a Kindergarten teacher and I have 5 year olds at the beginning of the year that can't do what Logan can do. It is not because they have trouble learning, it is because no one has ever took the time to work with them. It floors me, that a lot of parents don't read with their little ones. I know life can get hectic and sometimes it is the last thing I want to do at night, after being at work all day. But, I know how important it is for Logan and how much he enjoys it. It has truly become a special time that Stephen, Logan and I have come to really treasure. I haven't been as great with Spencer, but I am starting to read more with him in the day time. Spencer is at the age where he won't sit still for very long and will tear the book from my hand. But I know from experience, that if I am consistent it will get better. It is just exciting for me as a mom to watch all the new things my boys are learning and to spend this quality time with them! I know this time will go by fast and I for sure don't want to miss a thing!!
