Visiting the Turtles!

Even though the weather was bad the next few days in Padre, we still were able to do some fun things in the cold like visit sea turtles.
I remember when I was a little girl we would visit the real turtle lady at her home. She was in her 60's at the time and she saved sea turtles that were injured and then kept them in her backyard in huge salt water pools. She really had a passion for it and everyone in Padre loved her. Well, after her passing an organization of volunteers took over her job of saving turtles.
A lot of the turtles are missing fins or some part of their body, which would make it hard for them to survive in the ocean. By taking them in, these turtle are able to live for a long time and people are able to come and see them. The organization also helps baby turtles that are hatching make it from the sand to the water without being eaten by their predators. My aunt went down to the beach one time and gathered with other people to help the baby turtles. She said it was an awesome experience!
Well, I was very excited to be able to take my little boy to see the turtles too. He really loved it and kept on saying "tuwtles kick, kick, kick!" Grandma even bought him some plastic turtles to play with at home in the water. He loved making them swim around like the ones he saw at the turtle house. It is neat how animals engage children in so much learning!

Those turtles look soooo cool! My turtle at school is waiting for you to come visit again! I wonder if Mommy would let you turtle sit over Christmas...

What a vacation you had - high in the sky to deep in the ocean. We sure had fun (and noluggage required when Grandpa is around).
Next time we'll require more sunshine. Can't wait for Christmas now - and tell Christi we'll turtle sit! We know how now.
Love you
